superkampfroboter- He has self-determination (as per cartoon canon!). Simply put, he can't easily be reprogrammed. Let's handwave that this is because he's constantly rewriting his own program with his experiences even though that explains nothing, but just so that we don't go down the computer science hole. That's plenty enough logic for a cartoon!
- He was the tiny prototype Dr. Light and Dr. Wily built together, later stolen by Wily and rebuilt to be a larger fighting robot (as per cartoon canon, but not explicitly confirmed!). Originally he worked for Wily because Wily convinced him that Light was planning to scrap him or wipe him as a failed project; by now he knows the man well enough to understand that Wily was being biased at best, but he's still cool with working for him. He has other reasons to hate Dr. Light.
- He has eyes under his visor, but they're non-functional - he needs his visor and the connectors in his helmet to have sight.
- His name was made up by Wily, to mock Dr. Light, "haha I have our prototype and I rebuilt him and he's mine now and I'm going to name him like you name all your dumb Robot Masters." Proto doesn't mind it, though.
- Proto didn't get an actual plasma blaster (as compared to a slipshod thing Wily threw together) until after Mega did. While his blaster can also copy Robot Master abilities, he doesn't like to use it that way because it feels like he's copying his younger brother.
